Where Illegal Immigration is Taking Us

Where Illegal Immigration is Taking Us
This is a post by my 16 year-old daughter and may also be seen on http://defendourborders.com/?q=node/40

“In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person’s becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American… There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is American, but something else also, isn’t American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag… We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language… and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is loyalty to the American people.” – Theodore Roosevelt 1907

This quote is one of the wisest things I have ever heard in reference to our borders. It is the very essence of what our border should be today. Some people would accuse border protectors of being racist but this is certainly not the case. We should protect our borders not because we don’t appreciate the origin of the people coming in, but because if we let them come in illegally we are not honoring America. Over centuries, brave soldiers have given their lives for this country; they have sacrificed in ways some of us can’t even imagine. How are we respecting their work by letting in these people who don’t have the patience or courage to become a true legal citizen? I’m not saying that the illegal immigrant’s intentions to seek freedom is wrong, I am saying that they would rather push their way in front of all the immigrants who have the patience to go through the process of becoming true American citizens and break the law then spend a few years waiting to become an American.
Immigrants are wonderful people. Most of us are descendants of immigrants, ones that came from all over the world seeking America’s freedom and opportunity. I certainly do not accuse all immigrants of treachery, just the ones that think they have the right to come onto our soil, take our money, and use us as footstools for their lives. If they want an honest days living they should become citizens and get hundreds of honest day’s as Americans. The meaning of the word illegal is “not according to or authorized by law”. For all of those who choose not to understand this, it means breaking the law. Laws are not meant to be broken; they are standards that hold our mighty country together. Without them everything would fall apart.
“There can be no divided allegiance here…” This is a command, not a question. It is an absolute. Immigrants who come here illegally care nothing for our allegiances. If they did, they would not even dare to break our laws. I wouldn’t even say their allegiance is divided; their only allegiance is to themselves and their own interests. If we are not strong about border control, we will become weak in other areas. America was never meant to be weak! Why do you think so many people want to come here? It is because they know they can have free speech, get a job, and send their children to whatever school they choose. Our country should never be used as a platform for people to enter illegally and then spout their own views. If you are not here legally, you have no right to free speech. You have no right to rally against America and protest laws and bills that are passed by the government. If you want the freedoms of American, you must become a true American.
“We have room for but one flag, the American flag… We have room for but one language here and that is the English language.” I was appalled to hear about the rallies happening in our country where illegal immigrants and citizens alike were hanging their own flags above ours and then turning ours upside down. What disrespect! This is our country; we have earned the right to live here and yet we tolerate illegal immigrants to come here and blatantly show discourtesy. They have no right to be here and they have no right to disrespect our way of life and our symbols. On American soil, the flag is never to be held in contempt; it is our symbol and represents our beliefs. If they want to do that in their own country, fine, but not here. Another thing that appalls me is the lack of enforcement for the rule of language. English is our language, English! In schools children have to learn a second language for credit and most are encouraged to learn Spanish, why? Because so many people in the country only speak Spanish. Here’s an example, I went to a salon once to get my hair cut. The lady at the desk hardly spoke English; she had to repeat everything at least three times for me just to understand here. I’m sure this has happened to you at least once. Even in grocery stores, in the self-check-out aisles, there are two language options, English and Spanish. This is unacceptable. There shouldn’t be any options at all, you either speak English as a first or second language or there is problem. I understand that new legal immigrants may need lessons but they at least learn. Illegal immigrants are not forced to learn and so we require alternatives for them. It’s absolutely absurd.
It comes down to this; most illegal immigrants come here looking for a better life. Some people support them; they have compassion on them and help their cause. Others, though, do not support them because they are breaking the law. If there is divided allegiance in this country, if there is no common language, if we cease to show respect for our flag then the America which people come looking for no longer exists. By accepting illegals and what they do, we are slowly destroying America and what we stand for. Illegals want to take over the country; this was proven when they started telling us that we don’t have the right to live here anymore, that we, the true American people need to leave.
If we are true and loyal Americans we would do a better job of protecting the borders, our borders. This is our country; I do not say this out of selfishness but out of love for my home. I welcome Immigrants who are willing to go through the process of becoming legal. They have every right to be here because they are true Americans. But if you sneak across my border, I will do everything in my power to get you back to your own country. Other countries do a better job of protecting their borders. Since our country is so big and powerful, I would challenge anyone who can take action to start now. We have to save our country from becoming overridden with illegal that would use our sweet nation as a doormat. God forbid that day from ever coming and God Bless America!
